I’m an ultralite backpacker and a passionate unicyclist trying to find his medium on the road. I hiked the Appalachian Trail (AT) last year, where I was known by the trail name Sideshow. I hope to hike the PCT after I make the 4,262 mile jaunt across the states on one wheel. I’m enjoy sampling all the culinary world has to offer me. This will take a priority on my trip, along with listening to music, and meeting as many people as possible.
I grew up around Baltimore, MD. I live in Brevard, NC, just south of Asheville, but for now, my home is the road. At first I was motivated purely by the adventure and the challenge. I now wish to dispell the belief that unicyclists are only performers, and promote a more open, less fearful society. One person at a time.
If you have any interest in boarding me as I cross the country or just wish to give me words of encouragement, please contact me via my email.
If you have enjoyed reading my blog during my ride across the country, please consider donating to my savings so that I may create another blog during my hike from Canada to Mexico in 2011.

Where are you from? Oh thats crazy, I live right near Mineral (its where my best friend lives) and my friend Marcus works at the bike shop in Charlottesville that you were at!!
good luck with your trip!
from Severna Park, MD. live in Brevard, NC.
When you gonna be in Utah? I can hook you up in SLC Utah… without a doubt.
Seems like a dope trek you are on… I wish you all the best… and will track you when I can
hit me up at dkimmel2009@gmail.com
Hey I was the one that was at the bath house when you came to shower in Sterling. My mom is the motorcycle lady from the grocery store. I hope you enjoyed our thunderstorm!
Good luck the rest of the way.
I did. Got lots of lightning pics. Can’t wait to post them
We really enjoyed meeting you on your way into Lander. One of the highlights of our trip out west!
Seeing you and talking to you, if only briefly, was also a highlight of our trip. reading your blog, I now wish we had chatted longer. Here’s a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIFfayI_yZU
I saw a guy on a unicycle on the Blueridge parkway when I was down there on vacation in May 2009. Any chance it was you in training? Or would you have been on the AT then?
P.S. Just outside of Asheville…. I realize the parkway is a long road.
I was definitely walking through Virginia. There are like 6 other MUni-ists around Asheville though. I’ve never met a single one.
My wife and son and I saw and spoke to you in Wyoming just east of Jefferies City ( we were the folks pulling a boat) my son Will got a kick out of your unicycle. We admire you and wish you the best in your travels.
Met you between Prairie City and John Day, Oregon. Hope you made it through the gorge on the way to Mitchell. Some of those corners are so sharp and there is no edge on the road. I want to make sure you made it ok. It’s a maternal thing. I would be happy to donate to your food supply or take you to dinner when you get to Redmond. I want my guyfriend to meet you.
Have a safe trip.
sure. I’m just in Dayville tonight, but I’ll be in Prineville tomorrow. And then Redmond that next morning I suppose.
Thanks for stopping by the Bike Friday SatRDay with the flat. Beautiful red sky pictures, probably influenced by the Rooster Rock fire. Peace.
My little girls and I saw you headed up the Harpster Grade near Grangeville ID at high noon on Aug. 1 in that incredible heat, and we were amazed! Today in G’ville we talked to two guys biking from VA to Florence OR, and we mentioned the unicyclist we’d seen. They laughed, and said that they’ve been hearing about this guy along their whole route and keep hoping to meet up with him! I told them you were way ahead! I got home and decided to Google you– so glad you have a blog. Have fun on your next adventure!
Great website and blog! I met you last week as you were riding along 101 towards Manzanita. I was driving and trying to take your pic. . .thanks for pulling over to say hello. You were a great sport about a crazy woman weaving in her jeep while waving a camera. Best of luck on your ride — you’re an inspiration. Ride on!
I was one of the first Eastbounders you met as you rolled along in Eastern CO. It was fun to hear of your earlier adventures as I headed to VA. Lots of folks asked me if I had met you, and I showed them the photographic evidence that I did. Glad to hear that the trip was a success for you. I loved my ride, but it was more traditional than yours, since mine was on 2 wheels. A friend that I stayed with in Prineville, OR sent me the link to the article about you in their paper as you came through there. Keep on pedalling!! If you are ever in western CO, you have a place to stay. Keith
OK, Sky, this can be your next transam adventure. Just need to pick a partner and figure out who gets to look forward each day!

We enjoyed meeting you in August off Idaho’s Highway 12 – about the last place in the world we expected to see a unicyclist. You might recall us as the group of backpackers with the organization Wilderness Volunteers, heading into the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness to spend a week maintaining and repairing trails.
You left such an impression, we even felt compelled to write about you on our blog: http://wildernessvolunteers.blogspot.com/2010/11/wheres-your-other-wheel.html
it was a pleasure. thanx for the well-written blog post.
Hey hey bro! Long time no talk. Remember riding and hanging with you for a couple of days in Walden, CO and into Rawlins, WY and then up to Lander. Glad to see you finished, and it’s too bad we didn’t get to hook up when you got here to my hometown of Portland. I see you found some cool shit here (STUMPTOWN!!) and had a good time so that’s awesome. I hope P-town treated you right!! You are hiking Canada to Mexico in 2011? I’m assuming you’re doing the PCT, but am I wrong? Hope all is well. Drop me a line sometime, and of course, if you’re near to Portland during next year’s hike, you should come into town and hang out a bit!!
