Yesterday after learning a good bit about home brewing from my host Eric, and helping him bottle his kolsch, I went to sleep. I woke up the next morning to find it raining. I wondered down Merrimac Rd towards the huckleberry trail without reliance on my break, as my rims were wet. As I made it into the Christiansburg area, I decided I needed to eat breakfast before I collapsed. So I wondered over to the Panera Bread on the opposite side of the parking lot, and entered. I ponder what my cheapest option is for breakfast, and the manager does me one better. They hook me up with a free bagel and coffee, and I discuss adventures with an employee, previously of the nomadic type himself.
Now I’m content, rain or shine, as I’ve just finished my first ACA map. Which means I need to wander to the post office to collect my new one
Easier said then done, I ride over to the downtown P.O. only to find that I need to back track and find the main post office on the other side of town. To put it simply, I do 17 miles before I even leave Christiansburg.
Then after hitting the library, and grabbing a bite in Radford, I meet my first fellow XC cyclists. Their names are Will and Alex. They’re riding from NYC to San Francisco to raise money for autism.
I end of meeting with them later in the day at a truck stop along 81. We take different routes but we plan to meet back up in Wytheville, and stay for the night.
Personal record today: 75 miles
I slept very well in this field regulated by the community center in town. Which also happens to have wifi. Now I just need to get breakfast, and off to Damascus.
