I’m sitting here in the motel 6 next to Richmond international airport. Here’s how I got here:
After I left the beanery, I found my way onto the capital trail, Virginia’s bike path which follows rt 5 for a good ways. I found myself riding through some serenely beautiful wide open spaces. Then, miraculously, I found myself on another detour, this time riding around Willis Church Road which had been blocked off. I’m minorly baffled for a little while due to the detour’s lack of signs. But, just as I find my way to Glendale, who turns the corner, but a unicyclist atop a 36 inch coker. I have litterally never just bumped into another unicyclist outside of a bike shop or my social circle. The chances were extremely against this happening, but it did. So we meandered over to the service station, and tried to figure eachother’s lives as unicyclists. So I order a pizza and laugh to myself, at all the customers/spectators at the citgo who all thought that we were just out for a ride and had known eachother for years. False.
Frank, as he is called, was out training for a double century (a two hundred mile ride) that was coming up. Props to him. So, he’s leaves to finish his 15 mile loop, and I finish my whole pizza with no help whatsoever. I’m off again, racking up the miles trying to get to Mechanicsville to avoid the rain, and possibly visit the bike shop. I have bottom less water bottle cage that has needed attention since before I left NC three weeks ago.
Through all this, felt nothing stopping me… Until I stopped. I decided to check out the hotels in hope of a reasonable stay. And in my attempt to remount, I discover a pain like no other, temporarily inhibiting my riding skills. So I push harder to find hotels whilst migrating from hotel to hotel to abuse their wifi network. I also seem to have collected all the pollen in the world into my sinus’. So that’s a double wammy. I even try to stealth but, no good spots and I’m being eaten alive by mosquitos. I also found a tick engourged in my arm, before I took a shower tonight. Good times. I finally decided to bite the bullet and spring for a motel 6 room.
I over all had a great day, and a stressssssful evening.

It was great to meet you, and a shock as well. As I was riding back home, one of the bubbas up the street called out from his front porch, “Hey, where’s the other one?” I said, “Hell, beats me. I don’t even know the guy!” Best of luck on the journey ahead; you’re living the dream. I’ll be following your progress.
hey, love the pictures and great stories. don’t forget to monitor the tick bite for Lyme’s disease! most likely if you found the tick it was too big to be a deer tick. remember, bull’s eye rash appearing 3-30 days after bite with flu-like symptoms. i know you know all this, but its the nurse in me to remind you!
“living the dream”
as it says on my water bottles…
